Nous 'Bolle di Magenta' Frizzante Garganega
The service and consulting was excellent and I was fascinated with the possibility of getting the wines from a tap as well as a deposit system where you could just come and fill the bottle again.
The whole concept of the shop is quite interesting and this was the place where I ended up buying this Frizzante, exclusively made with the Garganega grape.
Being Italy an almost endless source for autochtonous grapes, I have decided to try this one, seduced by the description of the volcanic soil as well as to try a, for me, new grape of which I knew nothing about.
In the glass it has revealed itself rather turbid which is not uncommon at all, taking in account that it is a nature wine. In fact, I really have appreciated its seducing golden colour which matched the intense smell of ripe fruits such as pear and apples.
In the mouth it was rather dense and complex, somehow foggy and powerfully fruity with a good and pronounced minerality, making it an amazingly intense sparkling wine, by far different from the clear minerality that most sparkling wines tend to offer.
Somehow, this Frizzante has managed to translate almost to perfection the intensive and deep talk that I had at Balera where I have felt the joy of pure complicity in a most pleasant place that has left in me the intense wish to come back soon and discover the renewed new worlds that Italian wine can offer.
This time I will not post a poem, but a quote by Joan Didion who has passed away today leaving the world of literature significantly poorer:
To have that sense of one's intrinsic worth which constitutes
self-respect is potentially to have everything: the ability to
discriminate, to love and to remain indifferent. To lack it is to be
locked within oneself, paradoxically incapable of either love or
indifference.
