Ned Sauvignon Blanc 2021

The other day I decided to organize a wine tasting with some colleagues from work  and when asked about which wine each person should bring, I have decided to leave it absolutely free and be surprised with the choices of my colleagues.

This was planned with the main goal of clarifying how you can settle a tasting order without any previous knowledge of the wines you would have in front of you.

When we all sat at the table I could not be more impressed with how well everything seemed to have been planned: two crémants (a white and a rosé), three whites (of which two were Sauvignon Blanc from Marlborough), three reds (of which two were Reservas from different years from la Rioja) and a desert wine.  I am not sure whether I would have managed to get such a perfect setting if I had planned it throroughly.

Even though the level of the wines chosen has been satisfyingly good, there was one that particularly called my attention: the NED Sauvignon Blanc has seduced from the very first moment due to its freshness with intense tempting citrus taste almost perfectly allied with green apple.  You could also feel some salty notes along with a pleasant flowery bouquet.

In fact, in a night which promised to finish with a desert wine I have found myself going back to this Sauvignon Blanc to recover some of its freshness and finish the evening in a rather lively way. Having had this wine brought by a colleague from New Zealand has also added a special hint to it as she has managed to desbribe Marlborough's landscape in a rather lively way.

This is a wine that I definitely want to come back to, probably on its own and not on a tasting so that I can have the pleasure of tasting it in a more impartial way.

After the tasting I have realized how few I know about New Zealand's literature and I have soon come across Bill Manhire's poetry which marveled me from the very first instant creating a delicate balance to Murakami's Killing Commendatore that I'm currently reading.

Enjoy this Homeric and, if possible, with a nice glass of Ned's Sauvignon Blanc:

Cold cry from the last page of  the dictionary,
name with a knife in it, and the knife
italic against the throat

till you fall into so heavy a sleep —
sleep made of asterisks and cattle,
the herd just a black scarf

against snow — you can’t begin to guess
where the old world went. Now there are only two

choices, says the tale, and neither is good.

Hence an axe above each separate entrance
as the hero becomes hardly a voice
and the sad dogs appear on the screen.

Then there is a thin, high scraping.
Then no noise of any sort at all.
