Schumann Nägler Riesling Geisenheimer Mönchspfad 2019
Even though there is a strong minerality which gives us an almost sparkling feeling,
in this case the citrus are predominant, revealing themselves particularly green with a lime scent absolutely refreshing.
For a long time I have reserved the seasons of the year to different kinds of wine. The perspective of having a white wine in the middle of the winter sounded for me as some sort of deadly sin as well as having a glass of red wine in the warm Portuguese south sounded like the last of options.
Till the moment came that a German producer at a wine fair in Hamburg has tried to convince me wrong. He argued that I should rather focus on what I want to pair the wine with and, in his particular case, being a fan of Vietnamese food, he said that you could never do wrong with a Riesling.
And it was precisely with some Vietnamese food that I have tried this Schumann Nägler which has adapted itself quite accordingly, matching its citrus with the lemongrass and the minerality with the basil. Not being too strong it has also be a nice companion for the general spice.
Still I have decided to keep a bit to try on its own and make a better judgement of it and I have to confess that without being an exceptional wine, it is a very decent one and incredibly versatile and good to have around for the most different occasions.
With it, I'll go back to one of my favourite poets, the beat Gregory Corso with his thrilling The Whole Mess...Almost
