Clos Henri Pinot Noir 2016
As I start writing this post I have just finished reading Drunken Comportment by Craig MacAndrew and Robert Edgerton.
Besides my criticism on how the whole studies that were presented were mainly based on the effects of alcohol in non-western societies and from an outdated anthropological perspective, there were some questions that jumped out. How different people react to alcohol is one of them. Even though there is an attempt to establish a pattern, they do fail to do it. This sends me more to the personal field, saying that it is more dependent on the individual than on a certain culture.
Still, I do believe that certain moments in certain societies can condition people's reactions to alcohol.
But I do not have a concrete conclusion on the theme due to the amount of thoughts that are still popping up in my mind in a rather chaotic way and that is something typically mine.
What I have quite clear is that there is a very strong connection between cooking and what you drink with it and that there are certain kinds of cuisines which are easier to pair with wine. And this is also a social act which plays quite a key role in my daily life. I do think and care about what comes to the table at the time of sharing a family moment.
With the summer seeming rather unstable around here, I have decided to do a portuguese bean rice with mojama. To accompany it, I have opened this Pinot Noir by Henri Bourgeois.
The mix between a one year barrel experience and a bit more robust Pinot and the typical delicate notes of a cool climate Pinot have made me decide on opening it.
If on the one hand the primary aromas of cherry are already fading, giving place to light tobacco notes and slight marmalade nuances, on the other it still has some fresh acidity that keeps it alive.
Even though its best days may be gone, it has still performed satisfactorily. If you happen to still have a bottle around do open and drink it as soon as possible.
In my case I know that wine is deeply connected to food and to the whole sort of rituals that you have at the time of sharing a meal and it is impossible for me to dissociate both.
