Adaro 2021
When I have started wondering why I like certain kind of wines, it soon became clear to me that I had in the Douro reds a source of infinite offer that really pleased me. The effect of the schist soils provokes in me a whole sensory experience that awakes some of my deepest feelings and sensations.
Sure is that grapes like Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca or Tinta Roriz, which in Spain is known as Tempranillo do play a major role, but the soil does establish a special connection to real essence of the wine.
I know that I what I have written may sound rather esoteric, but wine is not always a completely exact science and, in fact, the best moments are the ones that you manage to disconnect what is your conscious perception of a wine's quality and let yourself go in the pleasure that it can grant you.
As I have written before, the Douro reds were my first wine passion. Being so, I soon grew curious to know how this terroir expressed itself on the other side of the border in Ribera del Duero.
The focus on Tempranillo instead of the cuvées from the portuguese side, helps to reveals the full potential of the grape.
Unlike what happens in Rioja, in Ribera del Duero Tempranillo tends to show itself a bit more elegant with slight higher acidity that highlights the typical iron taste of the grape, offering us this feeling of dense black fruits.
And this is exactly what you find in this Adaro.
Intensive ripe cherry as primary flavours, accompanied by hints of tobacco and very discreet vanilla notes revealing a wise and not too extensive maturation in barrels have made my experience of this wine a really pleasant one, not only fulfilling my expectations but also transporting me to this sensory sensitiveness that I have described before.
This is one of those wines which perfectly match the coming of Autumn and the opening of the game meat season and that I am definitely looking forward to get back to, now that I have decided that it will be one of the wines that will accompany me during the Christmas festivities.
