 With the Evid-Action program entering a new and more ambitious round this October, it is no big surprise to see a higher demand for alcohol free alternatives. 

This is something that is also noticeable at the shop where I work. More and more people come around expressing their concerns about the consumption of alcohol and asking for alternatives to be present at their table. 

Even though my first comment tends to be for the customers to drink less but better, I do recognize and understand this general worry.  

Having a toddler home, I also look a bit around what the market has to offer in this particular segment that has been growing in quite a fascinating and fast way.

And that's how I came across this alcohol free Lambrusco.

Recommended by a friend who works in a wine shop close to where I live, I have recently bought a bottle. 

Even though it has 8 grams of residual sugar, which is not really atypical for a Lambrusco, it reveals itself as pleasantly fresh presenting clean black berries flavours and small hints of spices.

The typical sparkling obviously helps to make it livelier in the mouth.  

But due to the non existence of alcohol you can not really expect a long end. 

This is a more than valid alternative unlike many de-alcoholised wines where the residual sugar often tries to compensate the lack of alcohol. 

Perfect for lunch time while enjoying the last rays of sun in what seems to be a golden Autumn in northern Germany.

 

As a small side note, I am perfectly aware of the rather furious dispute between the wine industry and the somehow puritan movements against the consumption of alcohol, but this is a theme that arises in me mixed feelings as points of view tend to become more and more extreme as time is passing.

 When a product is particularly cheap Germans often use the expression "it's a fair price" to refer to it.  Being a non native German speaker, the question that often invades me is : Fair to whom? To the farmer? To the winemaker? To the transport people? To me who is selling you the bottle, to the labeling team, the marketing, the pickers, and the list could go on almost without an end. Certain is just that this expression annoys me to an unimaginable extent. The answer is quite obvious that it is fair for the customer as it gives them the feeling of saving money. The other day I have found myself wondering which wine I needed to buy.  Even though the answer, on a first level, seemed quite obvious to me  that I did not need any more wine as my basement is considerably full and I am drinking considerably little at home these days. Still, I thought that a white Etna wine was missing in my collection as it is something that I always like to go back to. And what about an Alvarinho from Rheinessen?
