Beste Lagen Sauvignon Blanc Felseneck
To the people close to me it is no secret that I am a huge fan of the most efficient form of human transportation.
In fact, I can barely imagine my days without a bicycle. Sure is that the fact that I am faster to get to work with it then with public transportation or even by car. Adding to it, there is also the fact that I can almost always find a parking spot relatively easy and close to my final destination.
Of course I could keep on describing how the perception of space and time deeply changes, how the inner feeling of freedom grows to an almost perfect state of happiness but I will just state that it is something that it is as deeply connected to my identity as wine itself.
In this sense it is not surprising at all that I have found the recent Mapped videos by Madeline Puckette in both Alto Adige and Alentejo tremendously inspiring and since I have first seen it that I feel like doing something similar not only in the given regions but also in some others.Tom Gilbey, who became quite famous after having had a glass of wine per mile while running London's marathon, also has quite a passion for bicycles often appearing on his social media canals along with his bicycle.
In a more personal sphere I do know a couple of wine professionals who are absolutely mad about bicycle as well, almost making its personal trademarks being known in the wine scene for it.
And there are some wines, which, in a certain way, translate the same kind of energy that I feel when cycling.
This Sauvignon Blanc from the Nahe it is quite a good example of a slightly electric wine, with nice acidity and quite intense methoxypyrazine which confers the typical green bell peppers flavours.
The intense mineral character that you often in wines form the Nahe is also very present giving it a tremendous freshness which matches quite perfectly with this end of Summer in Hamburg.
In fact, this a good example of how Germany can produce really good Sauvignons that reveal the specificity of the terroir while showing the major characteristics of one of the world's most famous grapes.
After having accompanied me in a long working evening, it is now time to cycle again.
