Villa Oeiras 7 Anos

 As I have been coming across more and more sorts of wines I have been feeling a tendency to look for more exquisite and exclusive things which can grant you a more unique experience. 

I have to confess that I am the sort of person who easily feels seduced whenever a good or interesting story is told and this particular project has enough history to get me seduced from the very first moment.

Coming from one of the smallest protected denominations in Portugal, the Carcavelos´ wines have been an international reference for quite some centuries now making themselves present in the market of fortified wines mainly dominated by Port and Madeira wines.

With a strong historical connection to the emblematic Portuguese minister Marques de Pombal who became famous for his reconstruction of Lisbon after the earthquake of 1755, this fortified wine has known a new life recently, being integrated in a project of the Municipality of Oeiras in order to grant it some support and more visibility.

The result?

An amazing, slightly smoked with intense orange perfume and in the mouth pure velvet reminding me of some well-aged purple moscatel. With some light notes of lavender around dried fruits almost reaching caramel it is the perfect end for a meal and a time travel hand in hand with history. 

The bottle I have drunk was brought to me as a wedding "souvenir" of two Portuguese friends who are also living in Hamburg, conferring to it an even more special taste. 

This is one of those wines that is always worth to have around.

 Having been back in Portugal I have experienced how a different social wine culture can influence your global experience as a tourist with a special gastronomic focus. The other day I have found myself wondering which wine I needed to buy.  Even though the answer, on a first level, seemed quite obvious to me  that I did not need any more wine as my basement is considerably full and I am drinking considerably little at home these days. Still, I thought that a white Etna wine was missing in my collection as it is something that I always like to go back to. And what about an Alvarinho from Rheinessen?  There are few places where I feel much at home as the central library in Hamburg.  In its infinite chaos of people, events, places to read, work or to have a cup of coffee I feel a tremendous peace and deep sense of order in an almost Saramago 's way when he has written that " chaos is merely order to be deciphered". It is also an endless source of inspiration in what concerns what I will read next and, consequently, what I will be cooking and drinking.
